Blockbaby1400: Breaking Barriers in Music as a Black-TransMan Artist

Blockbaby1400 was born and raised in West Philadelphia, PA. With all the gun violence that happens in his city, music has become one of his biggest escapes. The local sound is a vibrant mix of Jersey Club, NOLA Bounce, and New York Hip-Hop. Currently, the city is immersed in a party club and Drill scene, where most of the music is either Drill Rap or Club music.

“My main goal in my music career is to be successful,” Blockbaby1400 shares. “I want to take it far, being as though I’m a Black-TransMan artist. I want to make way for the next generation that looks, talks, and acts like me. I don’t see any of that in this music scene today. Yes, it’s LGBT in the music scene, but I want to be a mainstream FTM artist/actor and create a firm label and safe space for LGBTQIA. I want to open a lot of doors for people—doors that wasn’t there for me.” His mission is clear: to not only carve out his own space in the industry but to build a foundation for others to follow. Representation, for him, isn’t just about being seen—it’s about making sure others can thrive in spaces they were once excluded from.

When asked what he would change about the music industry, Blockbaby1400 is direct and honest: “If I had the power to change one thing about the music industry, I would change the janky promoters, the money-hungry labels, and the foul managers. A lot of artists are great and they just need a push or someone to help them. The music industry is one of the easiest industries to take advantage of someone. I think it should be more people helping the upcoming artist and not hurting them.” Blockbaby1400’s voice is one of resilience and purpose. With his bold vision and dedication, he’s not only aiming for success—he’s committed to transforming the industry for the better.
