From Self-Doubt to Self-Discipline: Unogerk on Finding His Voice as an Artist

Emerging artist Unogerk reflects on his personal journey, creative process, and the mindset that continues to shape his growth as both an individual and a musician. Through self-awareness, discipline, and faith, he outlines the challenges he has faced and the lessons he believes are essential for artists striving to find their path.  Reflecting on his early struggles, he shares that one of the biggest obstacles he had to overcome was “a lack of motivation and self-discipline.” He explains that he once believed he needed a large group of people around him to validate or support the messages he expressed in his music. However, he later realized that “I’m still the same artist whether I have group motivation or even motivation embedded into myself.” This realization marked a turning point, as it allowed him to see his music “a little differently in a positive way” once he understood he could create independently. Unogerk also states that self-sabotage played a major role in his journey, particularly through substance use. While it initially helped him creatively, he acknowledges that it did not benefit him “mentally or physically.” Faced with this reality, he made a deliberate decision to prioritize his well-being. “I had to choose my health over what I thought was keeping me going,” he explains. Once that choice was made, he committed fully to taking care of himself, driven by his desire to “make myself a name one day.”

When discussing his daily routine, Unogerk describes a grounded and intentional lifestyle. Depending on his mood, he explains that his days are generally simple: “I get up, get myself right, then pray, and the rest just falls in order.” On days dedicated to music, however, his focus shifts entirely to creativity. He spends time experimenting with different flows and sounds, and when developing a larger project such as an EP, he takes a structured approach. He notes that he writes “every song on paper and tries to make a visual representation before I actually attempt to record,” resulting in days that feel “very organized” when music is the priority.

Although still an up-and-coming artist, Unogerk offers advice drawn directly from his experiences. He states that artists should “never give up unless you want to” and emphasizes the importance of not allowing others to define what is possible. “Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something or that it’s impossible for you to make it out of your situation,” he says. At the core of his message is authenticity—he believes that artists should love their work personally before sharing it with the world. He also stresses patience and faith, encouraging others to continue chasing their dreams even if their time has not yet arrived. Above all, he emphasizes the importance of spirituality, reminding artists to “always put God first,” because without Him, a person is “just walking into your own fate.” Through reflection, discipline, and unwavering belief, Unogerk’s journey illustrates the importance of self-growth alongside artistic ambition. His perspective serves as both a personal testament and a message of encouragement for artists navigating their own paths toward purpose and fulfillment.
